North Canton Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar 29.
The North Canton Police Department lost another beloved former member on Sunday, March 27th. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of retired North Canton Police Lieutenant, Floyd F. Morris. A native of the Somerton area, Lt. Morris served as a part-time police officer for about a year before beginning his full-time career with North Canton in 1963, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on March 23, 1970.
Prior to joining the department, Floyd was an intelligence officer with the Ohio Defense Corps Reserve, formerly the state guard, which he joined in 1961. He held an associates degree in law enforcement from the Stark County branch of Kent State University and served two years in Korea while in the Army. Floyd was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on Monday, January 22, 1973, a position he held until his retirement in June of 1986.
The passing of Lt. Morris and Lt. Bair earlier this month reminds us just how fortunate we are to have known these law enforcement giants of the past. To steal a quote from Dead Poets Society (1989) – “If you listen real close, you can hear them whisper their legacy to you”.
