Dr. Andrea Price Named Outstanding Educator of the Year

Clinical Associate Professor Andrea Price, DNP, RN, has been named Outstanding Educator of the Year, an honor bestowed upon her by students in Walsh University’s 2022 graduating class.  She is a two-time recipient of this award.  Dr. Price joined Walsh and The Byers School of Nursing in 2009 with eight years of clinical professional experience.  For the past 13 years, she has taught and facilitated learning in medical-surgical nursing and she is a PRN nurse with Summa Health Systems in Barberton, a position she has held since summer 2020 when nursing faculty were asked to return to bedside nursing to help on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. The experience she gained from working on the “COVID” floor is something she believes has been life changing and made her a better educator.

“I always told myself that if I’m going to continue teaching BSN students, I need to be back at the bedside,” said Dr. Price.  “Healthcare has changed so much since I first started in 2001.  Now, I’m able to see where the needs are in the patient setting, and I feel that I’m able to provide students a little more inspiration and also reality.”

Dr. Price has always been passionate about nursing and teaching. Though her career began as a bedside nurse, she often worked with new graduates.  It inspired her to become a professor.  Her experience came full circle when she found herself working alongside a former student, one of her first grads, who recently became a Walsh faculty member.

“It’s a humbling experience,” she said.  “I truly embraced it.”

Dr. Price earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Youngstown State University, her Master of Science in Nursing from Robert Morris University and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Walsh University.  Her nursing career included positions at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Doctors Hospital West and Allegheny General Hospital, where she cared for patients with acute illness, multi-system failure, acute stroke patients and acute cardiac care patients.
