Nationally Recognized Training to Enhance School Safety & Security

Stark County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Nationally Recognized Training to Enhance School Safety & Security

(Stark County, Ohio) – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted renowned speaker, Phil Chalmers, at R.G. Drage Vocational Careers Center.

On Wednesday, October 26th, 2022, more than 150 members of law enforcement from Stark County and surrounding areas and school administrators gathered at R.G. Drage Vocational Careers Center in Massillon for the four-hour training titled, ‘Profiling Teen Killers, School Shooters, Mass Murderers & Serial Killers. Two training sessions were held.

“The importance of this program is for me to come in and teach the audience as to how to spot violent people and dangerous people,” explained Phil Chalmers. “We discuss the causes, warning signs, and triggers to know how to spot danger. We also talk about school safety, youth culture, and we go over many cases. The more cases that I can cover, the better we will be at spotting these individuals. The safest school shooting is the one that never happened.”

Chalmers, a nationally recognized speaker, shared knowledge, and experience gathered from personally interviewing hundreds of convicted killers. Chalmers is recognized as a criminal profiler, true crime writer, and law enforcement trainer. Each training guided attendees through warning signs, triggers, and prevention techniques as it related to teen killers, school shooters, mass murderers, and serial killers. Each class also included live question and answer phone calls from convicted killers currently serving sentences in prison.

“When we have a philosophy to deter, detect, and defend our children in our schools we must work to get this information out to everyone,” explained Sheriff George T. Maier. “That includes our bus drivers, custodians, and school administrators. We can never be too prepared or too educated or have too much training when it comes to protecting our most precious commodity, our children.”
