Born September 7, 1908, in Norwalk, raised in Massillon
Paul Brown was born on September 7, 1908, in Norwalk, Ohio, and moved to Massillon as a child. He graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1925. In 1932, he returned to Massillon as the head football coach. He led the team to six state championships and an 80–8–2 record over nine seasons. He introduced the use of playbooks and sideline signals. He later coached Ohio State to a national championship in 1942. In 1946, he became the first coach of the Cleveland Browns, named in his honor. He led the team to multiple championships. In 1968, he helped start the Cincinnati Bengals and served as head coach and team president. Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. His name is on Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. His coaching methods influenced modern football.
